DIY Kettlecorn for Party Favors

Candy buffets and cookie bars and have been all the rage at parties and weddings and believe me, I loveeee when there are any kind of sweets bar at their bash!

One sweet treat buffet that have been showing up is the popcorn bar! Caramel, rainbow, cheddar, original...all yummy goodness.

I was recently hanging out with a friend at her house and she decides to make some kettle corn for everyone. I thought she was going to pull out a kettle corn machine, but instead she pulls out a pan! She has figured out a way to do her own easy DIY kettle corn and it tastes just as great! I thought this was a fabulous and low budget idea for any party.

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons of oil
1/2 cup kernels
1 1/2 tsp sugar
salt to taste
butter to taste (optional)
large shallow pan (easier to get full coverage)

1) Heat up 3 tbs of oil and put one kernel in the oil to test when it is hot enough. Once the kernel pops, you know it's ready for the rest

2) Turn down the heat to med-low and pour 1/2 cup kernels followed by 1 1/2 tsp sugar

3) Saturate the kernels in the sugar otherwise the sugar will caramelize in the pan.
Make sure you get even coverage. Keep them moving and make sure you keep the lid on. You wouldn't want a flying kernel to the eye!

4) Once all the popping has ceased, pour the popcorn into a large bowl and toss it a bit and add salt to taste.

Voila! Easy DIY kettle corn right in your home! Package it up pretty for a sweet treat at your next big event.

Thanks to Lisa B. for being my popcorn model and sharing your recipe with us!

  1. Thanks for the how to on kettlecorn. It's a great idea for a party. Who doesn't like popcorn, and I feel that guests are more likely to eat popcorn than fill up on candy.
