DIY Wedding Favorites

Wedding season is in full swing and I've been recruited to help some close friends brainstorm and decorate. Naturally, everyone is on a tight budget so of course we turn to the internets for some DIY wedding ideas. With some time and a few good friends, a DIY wedding can really save you some money as well as make your wedding day much more personal. Rather than make you search all over the web for them, I have generously blogged about some of my recent favorites. You may thank me now.

Forget those expensive photobooth rentals. With this baby, you get an awesome vintage feel as well as your choice of wallpaper!


Gorgeous DIY feather brooch from How Did You Make This.
This was definitely one of my favorites. You don't need to know how to sew or get messy with glue to create this beautiful brooch. Great for the bride or wedding party.





DIY gold glitter paper scroll / escort card on 100 Layer Cake.
Count on 100 Layer Cake to provide you with the greatest and "why didn't I think of that" ideas for your wedding. I love this color combo of pink and gold as well. I could see other color options like blue with silver glitter. Dazzling!

DIY baby's breath monogram from Bliss!
There was a time when baby's breath was repulsed by brides but we are seeing how resourceful they can be! With a little bit of wire and a few bunches of baby's breath, a beautiful monogram can be created for any wedding or special event. See the rest of the tutorial here.

This has to be by far one of the most imaginative projects I've ever seen. You may need Google Translator to translate the tutorial, but the outcome is so lovely.

I know, those paper lanterns that you want to hang on the ceiling really illuminate the space but man are they expensive! That is the reason I love this DIY. It uses something inexpensive and turns it into something super gorgeous. DIY Doily lamp FTW! I've seen these also done with string.

Lisa's Big Day: The Bridesmaid's POV PART 1

Lisa is finally married and on her way to her honeymoon on some obscure tropical island! Lucky girl! I was privileged enough to be part of her big day and super excited to share with you my non-pro shots of the day. I'm sure Lisa will post some from her photographer, the uber talented Sabine Scherer later on as well. Both ceremony and reception were held outdoors at the beautiful Hakone Gardens, a Japanese koi pond garden in Saratoga, CA.

Hung at the gate entrance of the garden.

The bridesmaids' bouquets and boutonnieres were all made by Lisa herself on the night before her wedding. Yes, she is crazy, but it takes a little bit of crazy to be a creative genius. =) I loved the little pom ball boutonnieres.

The programs sat in an apple crate she found for $1 at some random store. The covers were printed on a metallic stardream green paper through my inkjet and the inside was printed on kraft paper through my laser printer.


these were inspired by the lovely work of Erin Jang


Each table centerpiece sat one of these lovelies. Two yellow birdies nesting on a delicious red velvet or banana cake on top of wood stumps cut by the bride's very own hubby. I was in love with these.

At the reception, this was one of many tables set up. It was the sweet bar full of Paulette's macaroons, lemonade and a popcorn bar all in the colors of the wedding

The table numbers were held by one large, evenly round white balloon with a tag of the table number printed on. Each balloon was held down by a single green apple. She found a local balloon shop that sold these in all different sizes and colors.

Spring Wedding Bouquets

When I was in high school, I had a part-time job at our neighborhood flower shop. It was definitely more than a job and I have learned many very useful skills that I have definitely used over the years for many weddings, high school dances and at home.

I went to the San Francisco Flower Mart with my good with Michelle from Bliss'd to scope out some possible flowers for my wedding. It is important to look at flowers to see if they are in season. To save on cost I am doing my floral arrangements including bouquets myself. Since we are having an outdoor wedding, we decided that we didn't need to do too much with flowers. I love flowers like hydrangeas and peonies. I really enjoy working with filler flowers like waxflowers, forget-me-nots, solidasters and any greenery.

If you need to cut cost for your wedding, taking on this task on would definitely help the wallet. So I spent about $80 dollars on flowers and I ended having enough to play with to make my bouquet, 3 bridesmaid bouquets, 3 boutonnieres and 3 vase arrangements. I had plenty more to left over!!

Here are some inspirations that you can take on and do on your own!

So here is a bouquet that I played around with. The flowers that I used were..
- Solidaster (yellow filler)
- Mini white roses
- White ranunculas
- White gerber daisies

And this is the end product. Not so bad eh? :)

Jolie Tip: If you are working with gerber daisies you should use floral wire to keep the flowers from hanging over. This way the gerbers stay secure within the arrangement and will be easier to work with. You would stick the wire into the bottom of the head of the daises and then twist down the flower stem and TA-DA.. you are done and you will have BEAUTIFUL looking gerber daisies for any arrangement!
