Simple Party Themes - Milk & Cookies!
How much more simple and nostalgic can you get with a milk and cookies birthday party. Anne over at A Party Style threw her daughter a delicious birthday party with all the fixings. She does a great job explaining her process.

A Button Themed Bridal Shower
So it's wedding season and once again we have quite a few weddings to attend this year and along with weddings come bridal showers. We are helping a few people plan theirs and so I'm browsing through Wedding Chicks and check out the loveliness that ensues which was brilliantly shot by the talented Jessica Claire. EEK! It seriously is all about the details.
This button garland makes me so happy. I'm wondering what else we can hang on string!

Alice in Wonderland Mini Bridal Shower Invite
Lisa's coworkers wanted to throw Lisa a small bridal shower at work and invited me to join in. Lucky ol' Lisa, this was my 3rd party for her :) We decided on an "Alice in Wonderland" Mad Hatter Tea Party since Lisa loves tea. Here's a quick look at her invite.
Due to such short notice, I kept it fairly simple with her invite and used some of Sir John Tenniel's original drawings from Lewis Caroll's book. Included in each invite was a small teabag of Jasmine tea. Printed on Paper Source luxe line. More to come from the mini shower!

Thank You Cards from Tiny Prints
I just received my thank you card from Lisa for her bridal shower. I thought it was really cute so I thought I'd share with you all! Keeping true to the 80's theme, Lisa ordered zebra print exotic thank you cards from Tiny Prints! I liked that our 80's group photo was in there and also the easy fill-in sections. I also liked that on her envelope, she addressed it, "the future mrs. billy". Love it.

I Love the 80's PART DEUX - Fun & Games
The color theme for Lisa's 80's bridal shower was basically a hot pink and black. Our friend, Sarah, only found soft pink carnations, so she spray painted them hot pink and wrapped zebra paper around the vases.
Although the eighties entailed a lot of cheesiness, we wanted to incorporate some chicness. For the balloons, rather than tie ribbon on the end, one of the bridesmaids bought a bulk of black lace off ebay and we used them to tie to the end of the balloons as well as crisscross around on the tables that had a pink tablecloth.
For the tables with a black tablecloth, we reused the magenta masking tape to mimic the invite. These were used for the slambook table and candy buffet. Instead of a standard guestbook, we created a hot pink slambook and had people take Polaroids to put into the book.
Lisa's signature Warhol looking photo was blown up to poster size. They now sit above her fiancee's bed :)
One of the bridesmaids came up with an awesome game of pin the glove on Michael Jackson's hand. She even put rhinestones onto the white glove for that extra bling!
And at the end, there was an impromptu workout with our fearless aerobics instructor. Everyone, strike a pose!
Bridal Shower Party Tip of the Day: Branding is very important! Even in a small party setting. Use the same colors, design elements and even fonts in the decor.

Part 1 of Lisa's Shower - The Outfits & The Grub
We had some crazy outfits at the 80's-themed bridal shower for our costume contest. Check out some of the best dressed and the inspirations behind them! Lisa, of course, did not get to compete, but we adored her more conservative version of Madonna's "like a virgin" outfit.
We grubbed on some yummy snacks like mini pigs in a blanket, mini pizzas and a nachos bar. One of the bridesmaids also made Orange Julius and it was delicious and so easy to make. This is the recipe we used.
No, you aren't seeing things. That is a twinkie cake made of twinkies, hohos and a snowball.
Continuing on with the sugar rush, we had a candy bar for favors.

"create your own sweet mix"
More to come including a game involving Michael Jackson's infamous white glove.

Flashback to the Eighties
Spoiler alert for Lisa!
Lisa's bridal shower is this weekend and for her shower, we are all tying our pony tails to the sides, pulling out our neon pink leggings, dancing to the Cure's "Just Like Heaven" and rockin' out to the era of the Care Bears and Madonna.
Lisa's bridal shower invitation was designed by one of our good design buddies, Sarah. Note the use the hot pink masking tape (that she found at Target) so carefully bound around the black envelope. We can also see Lisa's lovely nose ring embellished by a small rhinestone. The montage itself is deeply reminiscent of our childhood favorite, the original Hannah Montana, JEM. Oh you know who I'm talking about!
What fun project isn't complete without the use of our favorite medium, the gocco. I tried to gocco the hot pink onto the black napkin. At first, it was pretty bright, but when it dried up, it didn't seem to have much staying power. Any suggestions out there on how to improve? I had also tried using the cloth ink. Same result.
And of course, what is the eighties without some righteous pins. My husband bought me a professional button machine two Christmases ago and it is definitely one of my favorite crafting tools. Using Sarah's artwork, I've managed to plaster Lisa's face on about 15 of these 1" pins.
We are having an eighties costume contest, so I'm excited to see what all the ladies come up with. Anybody have a pair of leather hot pants I can borrow? :)
