Give me CAKE!

With shows like Ace of Cakes and Amazing Wedding Cakes, you can't help but drool and wow over what they can do with cakes! There seems to be no limit to what you would like to have done for your special occasion.

I was watching Amazing Wedding Cakes one night for the very first time and watched as Lauri Ditunno of Cake Alchemy in New York create this masterpiece. To watch her create the marble finish to the fondant and the chocolate spider web was enough for me to look her up to see what else she has done!

The roses that are on this cake are actual sugar flowers... yep they are not real! On the show Ruth Drennan who also owns her own business that specializes in these sugar flowers for cakes, made about 5 of these roses in 1 hour! Count how many roses are on that cake! :) Amazing aren't they!

Here are some more cakes by Cake Alchemy..

A couple weeks ago my friend Annette made me the best cake ever for my bridal shower. It was a pistachio flavored cake and she played with black and white fondant to create this DIY yummy masterpiece.. Thanks Annette!

Have a great Wednesday!

The Cupcake Craze

I can't help but get caught up in the whole cupcake craze. Cupcake companies like Kara's Cupcakes, Sprinkles and Magnolia's have really done considerably well in driving that craze. While they all taste pretty darn good, I think what has been really impressive through of all this is that cupcakes have basically started its own art movement.

I can't help but indulge myself into browsing (and drooling) on numerous flickr sites displaying the beautiful cupcake handiwork. I've also been seeing tons and tons of new cupcake recipes.I recently had a green tea cupcake at a wedding and was like..WHA?? Green Tea Cupcake???

Expanding ideas always leads to great discovery and what's great about the cupcake is that it's a constrained medium that people have been able to "take outside of the box" and that is what I really appreciate about the cupcake craze--that and it's general deliciousness. I'll be sure to create a post when I try a new recipe. Any suggestions?!
