Virago Modern Classics

These vintage book covers were designed to celebrate the Virago Classics 30th Anniversary from 2008, but I still really enjoy them :) Female textile designers including Orla Kiely, Cath Kidston and Barbara Hulanicki (Biba) helped produce a lovely set of eight hardback modern classics by writers like Barbara Pym, EM Delafield and Jacqueline Susann. Check out more here.

Jessica Claire's Handmade Book Invitations

I was going to call it a day on blog posts since it's Friday and the day is almost over but then my friend spotted these amazing book invitations on wedding photographer Jessica Claire's blog.

Each invitation came in an old hollowed out book. The main invitation piece is held back by a steel grey grosgrain ribbon and is sealed with a copper wax seal with a photo of a lock. Sitting on the left side some nice copper paper pockets from Kate's Papeterie are the additional invite pieces. Each invite had a different kind of button affixed to it.

A wax lock holds the book together.

Here is also a shot of their save the date which was letterpressed.

Read more about the process here.

Letterpress Engagement Book

Any girl would be so lucky to receive such a lovely engagement book given to her by her beau. The folks over at Studio on Fire have done it again designing a simple, yet elegant book for a groom-to-be to propose to his lucky lady. The book contains notes and emails the couple has written to each other over the years. How sweet is that.

specs via Beast Pieces:
"The gutt of the book is digitally printed in black text. The pages have a single hit of blind letterpress on the french folded edge. The pages are side sewn together and tuck into a custom hard bound book cover with black book cloth. We printed a custom liner on the cover interior with silver ink on black paper. The cover of the book and the title page are also letterpress printed in silver ink. The paper is 100 percent cotton Crane Lettra 80 lb text."

Letterpress Wedding Book Invitation

I recently browsed onto Merriment Design's blog and low and behold was one of the loveliest wedding invitations my eyes have ever set upon.

Nick & Nikki LoBue created a book out of their wedding invitation. They had a friend who was a copywriter help them write out their story.

They letterpressed the fabric book jacket out the outside as well as the other elements of the book which included the little tag that dangles from the book, the address labels and the belly band. You could tell that 110% effort was put into creating this invitation.

What I loved the most about this invitation was that it told their story...literally. It feels so personable and a lot of times you see invitations that look really nice but say nothing about the couple.

Fortunately for us, Merriment has the breakdown of the creation of Nick & Nikki LoBue's wedding book. See it here.
